A new, 30-second TV
ad from President Bush is entitled "Solemn Duty." In the ad, the
President is seated next to the First Lady. With soft music in the
background, the President says, "My most solemn duty is to lead our
nation to protect ourselves. I can't imagine the great agony of a mom or
a dad having to make the decision about which child to pick up first on
September 11th. We cannot hesitate. We cannot yield. We must do
everything in our power to bring an enemy to justice before they hurt us
again." This is the entire text of the ad (not including the "I'm George
W. Bush, and I approve this message.").
Although the ad features ZERO video or audio footage from
that day, and the reference to September 11 is only a passing one, the
news agency Agence France-Presse (AFP) published
an article with the title, "New Bush ad invokes September 11, draws
fire." The article itself also claimed the ad "[invoked] the
September 11 attacks." The piece then allowed free reign upon
the Kerry camp to deliver cheap shots at the President.
"If you ever wanted
proof that the Bush campaign has reached the point of
desperation, now we have it," said Kerry spokesman Chad Clanton
...
"It's another sign Bush has lost credibility -- he can't
speak to a single issue voters care about: not jobs, not
health care, not deficits," the spokesman said.
The new ad is a clear declaration that the President is committed to
keep America strong and safe. But notice how the headline of the article
says the ad "draws fire." The truth is that the only
"fire" is coming from the Kerry camp, whom AFP gives full permission to
besmirch the President.
The Kerry spokesman says the ad shows "[Bush] can't speak to a single
issue voters care about."
Note to Kerry spokesman:
In the ad, President Bush is
speaking about
the issues of
national security and fighting terrorists! Americans care a lot
about that!
