The 2006 documentary film Deliver Us From Evil was nominated for an
Academy Award. It purported to catalog the abuse of disgraced Catholic
priest Oliver O'Grady. Without even seeing the actual film, however, one
can see that the producers are not forthcoming and honest with their
audience.
In the
trailer for the film, the following claim is made:

The trailer claims that "there have been over 100,000 victims
of clergy sexual abuse in the United States." However, the heralded
2004
John Jay study, the most comprehensive study ever done on the issue
of Catholic priest abuse in the United States, found that only one
tenth of that number, 10,667, had actually made allegations
of abuse. And the study included all accusations going back to 1950,
over a half a century ago.

(By the way, the Jay study also reported that there were less than
110,000 men who have served as Catholic priests in the same time period.
For the film's outrageous claim to be true, there would be one victim
for nearly every priest who has served.)
The actions by Oliver O'Grady were nothing short of atrocious and
reprehensible, and the harm he wrecked upon his victims is immeasurable.
But such a glaring and egregious falsehood in the trailer of the film
does not bode well for the honesty of the film itself. It only leads one
to believe that a bigoted anti-Catholic agenda is in play at the hands
of the film's producers.
