Thanks to the media, even a mere accusation of sexual abuse committed by a priest long ago will irreparably shatter the livelihood of that priest. No matter how flimsy or how long ago the accusation, a priest is always presumed guilty in the media. And that priest's reputation is destroyed as the accusation is splashed across the front pages and the media floods the story with coverage.
But when it comes to Hollywood stars accused of abusing children, the media applies an entirely different standard. For example, just this month alone:
● Satellite radio outlet SiriusXM announced that it would be dedicating an entire channel to the music of Michael Jackson. You remember Michael Jackson? In 1993, Jackson paid a whopping $15.3 million to quietly settle an abuse claim, and in a 2003 television interview, Jackson even openly admitted that he slept with underage boys and even defended the practice. "It's what the whole world should do," explained Jackson.
● Stand-up comic Paula Poundstone continues to entertain audiences to this day on Wait Wait … Don't Tell Me, the popular weekly quiz show on National Public Radio (NPR) despite that in 2001, Poundstone was arrested and charged with three counts of committing a lewd and lascivious act on a girl under the age of 14 and one count of child endangerment.
To avoid jail time, Poundstone pleaded no contest to one count of felony child abuse and a misdemeanor count of "inflicting injury upon a child." (The New York Times cited a Los Angeles Assistant District Attorney who reported the misdemeanor charge involved "inappropriate touching.")
The court records were sealed, but naturally there has never been any outcry by the media over the secret proceedings or demand that the records be made public.
● Finally, this month, your taxpayer-funded network PBS has been seeking to raise money by airing 50 Years with Peter Paul & Mary, a documentary of the popular folk trio. Unbeknownst to many fans, however, in 1970, the group's Peter Yarrow pleaded guilty to "taking indecent liberties" with a 14-year-old girl the previous summer before a concert. (The New York Times interestingly referred to it then as a "morals offense.")
However, Yarrow served a mere three months in prison for his molestation. And in the waning days of his administration in 1981, President Carter even magnanimously pardoned Yarrow. (That's right. A president pardoned a convicted child molester.)
While we don't begrudge at all the right for Ms. Poundstone and Mr. Yarrow to earn a living, we only wish that the same standard was applied uniformly to Catholic priests. We are merely pointing out a glaring double standard.
"They are not of the world even as I am not of the world" John 17:16 His chosen.
"They are of the world. That is why they speak from the world's perspective. and the world listens to them." 1 John 4:5 Catholics.
So why must you insist on comparing yourselves to the world? Your church claims to be the "One True Catholic and Apostolic Church", yet you have worldly minded leaders who have acted so much worse than the world. You think you can claim not to be as bad as "Wacko Jacko"? You point your finger at Peter Yarrow, who has apologized for his wrong against a 14 year old, and yet some of your priests have raped 8 and 10 month old little girls while systematically preferring to molest countless young boys. Your church has also secretly paid off tons of victims, to the point where no one really knows the numbers anymore.
The only "glaring double standard" is that your worldly church and it's hypocrites are more than twice as filthy rotten as rest of the world. What's next? Are you going to claim not to be as bad as Ozzy Osborn or Anton LaVey? We shall see how well that works when you catholics stand before God and claim how holy, pure and good you've been and brag about all your greedy hospitals and schools and all the poor you supposedly helped. Can't wait for the Lord's answer, "I never knew you. Get away from me you evildoers?"
Dan,
I am glad to see that you are still ok.
Now, for your trite arguments:
“So why must you insist on comparing yourselves to the world?” = incorrect. This article simply illustrates the Media’s double-standard when it comes to deal with these heinous crimes. You still can’t see it.
“you have worldly minded leaders who have acted so much worse than the world” = correct, although I would’ve said “few leaders”. This doesn’t in any shape or form negates the assurance of Jesus that His Church won’t fail, and He’ll be always be with her.
“Your church has also secretly paid off tons of victim” = if it’s secretly, how do you know?
Once again, your pop references tell “tons” about your cultural tastes…
“We shall see” = indeed, we shall.
“Can't wait for the Lord's answer, "I never knew you. Get away from me you evildoers?" = if you already know what God will tell you, why do you persist in accusing His Church?
Have a blessed and safe weekend, still non-Christian brother.
"Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man's all. For God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil." Ecc 12:13-14
Why do you think you can judge every little thing about me, including my tastes in music or "pop refrences", but believe I'm incapable to judge your obviously false heretical church? You are nothing but an utter fool, and I hope you realize that God will likewise judge every little thing you say or do, whether secretly or your obviously blatant accusations and lies. It is then that we will know who are the true "evildoers" in this world.
And don't forget to judge my misspelling of references.
Dan,
“Why do you think you can judge every little thing about me…” = very simple: 1 Corinthians 2:15 says “The spiritual man judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one”, and verse 16 follows: “For who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ”. We, as in the Church that Christ established in Matthew 16:18.
Remember Matthew 26:52: “all who draw the sword will die by the sword”. Your own Scriptures (mis)quotes now condemn you.
Have a blessed weekend, still unsaved non-Christian brother.
LLC,
1- In order for you to use this quote, you would have to be a "spiritual man". Idolaters and goddess worshiping pedophile excusers could never qualify as anything "spiritual".
2- Again, If you belong to the Unholy Catholic church, you could never have the "mind of Christ" and should never think you could aquire such. You are a liar. (that's period).
3- I have never drawn a weapon or sword against your corrupt church, even when I may have had the right to, seeking revenge against their lying clergy. "Revenge is mine saith the Lord."
4- Conclusion- You should stay clear away from using Bible verse, heathen.
Please leave me alone, "unsaved" jackass.
Dan,
I am glad to see that you are seemingly doing well, even in fire-battered California.
Now, to your post:
1) “Idolaters and goddess worshiping pedophile excusers could never qualify as anything "spiritual" = correct. Since Catholics are neither, and since the Catholic Church is the only one with Jesus’ assurance that evil will not prevail against her, I can and will use this and any other Scripture to rebuke your poor arguments.
2) “You are a liar. (that's period)” = Someday, you’ll understand (perhaps) that “that’s period” doesn’t mean anything, like most of your posts. Regardless, you have failed, repeatedly, to show where I am lying.
3) “I have never drawn a weapon or sword against your corrupt church” = also, you have a very short memory. My comment was not about weapons, but how your same words from past posts come back now to condemn you.
4) Conclusion = I don’t “use” Bible verses. You do a spectacular job yourself by misquoting them.
If I may add, stay classy, my unsaved friend. Be safe, and remember, the heat from the California fires is nothing compared with what you might experience if you keep opposing Jesus’ true and only Church.
