The false accusations continue to pile up in epic proportions. In just the last few weeks we have additional evidence of phony accusations against priests. And this is no doubt just the tip of the iceberg:
- Investigators, which included former FBI agents, determined that the claim against Rev. Robert Potts of the Diocese of Allentown committing abuse "in the 1980s or 1990s" could not possibly have happened;
- Rev. Javier Heredia of the Diocese of Charleston now awaits a new assignment after two independent investigations cleared him of a vague claim of a "inappropriate conduct" with a minor in broad daylight; and
- The Archdiocese of Boston finally exonerated Rev. John P. Carroll – age 91 and who had been out of ministry since 2005 – over a bizarre claim dating back to the 1960s.
We've said it before, and we'll say it again: Whereas the vast majority of the first stories of abuse that surfaced in the mid-1980s and 1990s were tragically true, there is a new truth. Bogus abuse accusations against Catholic priests are rampant. The fraud being perpetrated against the Church is off the charts.
Long ago, the Church abuse story ceased being about "protecting children" or "holding leaders accountable." Simply put, now it is about pure hatred. The Catholic Church is the most influential voice in the world upholding traditional values. It is thus hated by the political left. They are currently burning churches to the ground in Chile. This is what persecution looks like.
And as the breadth of these false accusations demonstrate, filing phony lawsuits against the Church advances the left's political goals by bankrupting dioceses and tarnishing its public image. And it won't end soon, sadly.

What did anyone expect when it became clear that there was gold to be mined out there in the form of cash settlements?
Donald Link sums it up well, mostly it is about gold mining. But it is enabled by some worrying attacks on civil rights. For example, in Australia, there was a Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Abuse. It was no more than a public platform from which you could accuse others,of horrible things, without the need to prove anything. And do so without the risk of being sued in retaliation. Virtually it was legalized character assassination. The end objective was the formation of a National Redress Scheme, which is where the opportunists will go to stake their mining claims. Worse still the government has threatened sports associations and religious bodies with loss of their tax exempt status, if they fail to sign up to this legalized gold rush. Honestly…. you couldn't make it up.
